April 2023Bahar and James attended Spring 2023 RAPS - Research and Project Showcase at Clarkson University with poster presentations. Bahar presented her collaborative research with Prof. Silvana Andreescu on heavy metal removal with CMCht-based 3D hydrogel scaffolds produced from Sea Mouse chitin nanofibers, while another collaboration that James involved was presented by Van-Tuan Nguyen, graduate student of Prof. Jihoon Seo.  


March 2023TRioTech, the start-up of Bahar, Mehtap, and Arzu, swept the awards at the 2023 North Country Regional Business Plan Competition (NCRBPC).  With Mehtap's great presentation, TRioTech not only won the first place in the Food  & AgTech category,  but also was awarded with the Most Innovative Technology price, which recognizes a team that has undertaken a highly innovative project in terms of new technology development or the application of existing technology in a novel way.  Next, TRioTech will be competing at the Semi-Final Round of the New York Business Plan Competition!!! We thank Ashley Sweeney, the Director of Clarkson Ignite, and Jamey Hoose, the Director of the Shipley Center for their immense support and mentorship. 

January 2023The PSI group members got a pottery class at the Third Wheel Pottery Studio under the guidance of Prof. Jan DeWaters.  We thank Jan for such a fun night!


December 2022James Wait got his MS degree in Physics while he continues his PhD degree. He is the first MS graduate of the PSI lab. Congratulation James!

October 2022: Bahar Akyüz Yılmaz has been awarded with a 2214/A grant of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and joined our research group as a visiting PhD student to conduct a small part of her PhD project, which she has been doing under guidance of Prof. Murat Kaya. Welcome Bahar !!

August 2022: James Floyd and Javier Boatman represented our group with their poster presentations at the Summer  Research and Project Showcase (RAPS) 2022 at Clarkson University. 

August 2022: James Wait and Arzu attended to the 2nd International MXene Conference at Drexel University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that was held on August 1-3, 2022. James made a poster presentation and had a chance to discuss his results with Prof. Yury Gogotsi, who was one of the inventors of MXenes, a new family of two-dimensional carbides and nitrides, at 2011.

July 2022: James Wait won an accommodation support provided by the NSF to attend and present his work at the 2nd International MXene Conference at Drexel University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 1-3, 2022. The conference, titled "MXenes: Addressing Global Challenges with Innovation" is expected to convene about 200 in-person researchers, students, investors, and policymakers, along with hundreds more virtual attendees across the world, to discuss basic research problems and future applications for the novel two-dimensional materials. 

June 2022: James Wait and Arzu attended to the 2022 Tribology Gordon Research Conference (GRC) that was held from June 26 to July 1, 2022 at Bates College, in Maine. James made a poster presentation and also gave an oral presentation at the Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) that was organized in conjunction with GRC Tribology. 


June 2022:  Arzu attended to the "Characterization with Scanning Probe Microscopy" symposium as a keynote speaker at the 25th TechConnect World Innovation Conference that took place from June 13 to June 15, 2022, in Washington, DC. https://www.techconnectworld.com/World2022/bio.html

May 2022: We ended the Spring 2022 semester with a group dinner at Jake's on the Water at Postdam.


April 2022: Our collaborative work with Prof. Murat Kaya (the University of Cambridge, UK) is published in ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering Journal. Congratulations to all contributing authors!!


April 2022:  James Wait won the second runner-up prize at  Clarkson University 3MT Thesis Competition 2022. Congratulations!!!


April 2022:  James Wait and Javier Boatman represented our group with their oral and poster presentations, respectively at the Spring  Research and Project Showcase (RAPS) 2022 at Clarkson University. Javier won the Undergraduate Poster Prize. Congratulations!!!

December 2021:  We celebrated the end of Fall 2021 semester with an early Christmas dinner at the Lobster House at Norwood, NY. (in the first photo, from left to right, the front row: James Floyd, Delaney Holohan; the back row: Connor Bauman, James Wait, Arzu Çolak, Adam Rieder, Islam Morina).

December 2021: Arzu was recently one of only 12 scientist featured in the NuNano Women in atomic force microscopy (AFM) blog. In the blog, NuNano interviewed Arzu, where she shared her thoughts on why building a community of women in AFM is critical to the wider AFM community and the need for greater diversity and representation. We thank NuNano for highlighting the importance  of showcasing the AFM work of women to develop the AFM community. The interview was also announced by Clarkson University.

December 2021: Islam Morina (Physics, Freshman) has joined our research group to conduct his undergraduate research. Welcome Islam !!  

November 2021: James Wait gave a presentation at the Physics Colloquium of Clarkson University.  

November 2021: Arzu and her research with atomic force microscopy is highlighted on Twitter and Linkedin by NuNano, a UK-based company specialized in the design and manufacture of probes for atomic force microscopy and cantilever-based sensor devices.  The company has selected Arzu as a part of their #WomeninAFM series which showcase some of the fantastic work being undertaken by women working with AFM, ranging from Professors to Early Career Researchers, studying topics from smart materials to DNA repair.

July 2020: The Physics of Surfaces and Interfaces research group officially started at Clarkson University  in the midst of a global pandemic. Hooray!!
